Religion and ethics

At Blaxcell Street Public School, special religious education (SRE), sometimes known as scripture, is delivered on Tuesdays.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the scripture coordinator, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Blaxcell Street Public School:

Islamic Scripture

Islamic SRE is provided by the Islamic Council of NSW. For more information about Islamic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the Islamic Council of NSW website http://www.isre.org.au/

Catholic Scripture

Catholic SRE teachers are authorised by the local parish and trained by the Diocese of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic SRE curriculum is approved by the Bishop of the Diocese in liaison with religious education experts. For more information about the Catholic SRE curriculum go to https://www.sydneycatholic.org/

Christian Scripture

Christian SRE is provided by SRE teachers from different Christian denominations and churches. All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider.

The Christian SRE curriculum is authorised by Australian Christian Churches. The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of Christian life and culture and can be found at https://www.nswacc.org.au/

Students who do not participate in one of the above groups attend non-scripture, in a separate space, where they are supervised by teachers in independent, meaningful activities such as reading, private study or homework.

At this time, Special Education in Ethics (SEE) is not offered at Blaxcell Street Public School.
